Upcoming Hungerford Events

If anyone has ideas for other neighborhood events, please send in your suggestions! We are also looking for volunteers for events, especially anyone interested in helping pursue Hungerford signage with the City of Rockville.

Sat May 5, 1:30-4pm, Mother’s Day Flea Market & Book Swap
Dawson Farm Park, pavilion (tentative)

Time to pick out gifts for Mother’s Day! Bring a small trinket or book to donate (or both) for the Mother’s Day flea market & book swap, and pick one for Mom. You will get a ticket for each donated item to “buy” one as a gift for Mother’s Day. Kids can also make a craft or card for Mom (free).

Please bring items by 1:30pm.
Additional items can also be purchased for $1 or less - a great way for kids to spend their pocket money for a gift.

Raised funds will be used towards the upcoming neighborhood event - Memorial Day neighborhood parade and picnic.

Stream Clean-up Event

Stream Clean-up Event

Date/Time: Saturday, April 14 from 9 am to noon.

April 14 is the date of the Potomac River Watershed Cleanup, so most of the Rockvillle cleanups will also be held on this day. We clean Dawson Creek, which runs down the middle of Ritchie Parkway, specifically the section from Copperstone Court to West Edmonston Drive.

Bags and gloves will be provided.

A sign-up sheet will be posted later to get count for gloves.

**Meet at the table at Ritchie Pkwy and W. Edmonston. **
Everyone must sign a waiver form (provided). Students can get SSL credit.

We hope that the neighborhood can come together for this event to demonstrate our commitment to our neighborhood. Even an hour of your time would make a difference.

Both Elizabeth Crane and Monica Berger are certified Weed Warriors with MC Parks. We want to use the opportunity to help neighbors identify invasive weeds and tackle some of the porcelainberry and garlic mustard along the creek.

Construction Work at Dogwood Park

The City of Rockville Department of Recreation and Parks is planning improvements to the basketball and tennis courts at Dogwood Park during fall 2017 and spring 2018. Improvements to park facilities are scheduled on a rotating basis every five years. Work is planned to start in December 2017 with replacement of the basketball nets. In early to midspring 2018 (weather permitting), the city will resurface and repaint the tennis and basketball courts.

Work will consist of the following:

  • Replacing six basketball goals and repainting courts in the spring.
  • Resurfacing three tennis courts and adding pickleball lines to one court.
  • Replacing the fence around the perimeter of the tennis courts and installing two gates.

Notification signs will be posted at the park approximately one week before improvements are
scheduled to begin. The tennis court and basketball court areas will not be accessible during these times.

Please contact Mauricio Daza, Parks and Facilities Development Specialist, at 240-314-8620 if you have any questions.

A General Meeting of the Hungerford Civic Association has been scheduled for

Monday,  February 27, 2017
Beginning at 7:00 pm
Elwood Smith Community Center (601 Harrington Road)

All residents of the Hungerford Neighborhood are welcome and invited to attend.  Join with your neighbors and hear about what is happening in and around our neighborhood.

We are going to offer two small door prizes at our meeting. A previous resident of Hungerford, Mr. Kai Hu, painted a series of small watercolor paintings, one for each person who worked on the recent landscaping project. We have a few left over. Therefore those who attend the meeting can put their name in and we will pick two winners who can each choose a painting.

Light refreshments will be served.

Please help spread the word! Tell a neighbor and bring a friend!

Planning for an Addition to Richard Montgomery High School

Feasibility Study for RMHS Addition Project Work Session Meeting #1
On Wednesday, September 28th, the first of three community meetings related to the proposed Richard Montgomery High School addition project will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the RMHS cafeteria. While all are invited to participate in this process, the community is encouraged to send representatives from your respective streets, areas, and associations.  Everyone present will have the opportunity to hear about the study process for the proposed project.
The purpose of this study is to develop conceptual design options for the proposed school project. The meetings address spatial relationships within the school's interior, the pedestrian and traffic flow to the site, and how the proposed project will impact the community at large.
We hope that you will join us to learn more about the proposed addition to RMHS.  If you are unable to attend, there will be two more meetings in the upcoming months:
Work Session Meeting #2--Thursday, October 13th at 7:00 p.m.
Work Session Meeting #3--Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m. (Part of PTSA Presentation)
